The IRSP will be taking to the streets of Belfast this Saturday to stand in solidarity with Irish Republican political prisoners currently engaging on a 2 week hunger strike in Maghaberry and Hydebank.
The 2 week Hunger Strike follows the mistreatment of Palestinian prisoner Dr Issam Hijjawi-Bassalat by the Maghaberry administration, who following hospital treatment is being refused access back to Roe House under the guise of covid-19 isolation & containment.
In April, we publicly highlighted that Republican prisoners were being put in harms way by the gaol regime during the height of the first wave of the covid outbreak, as they were being denied cleaning products and screws were refusing to wear facemasks and other PPE.
The IRSP understand firsthand the heartache and suffering that is experienced during Hunger Strikes, having lost 3 members in 1981.
We once again, reaffirm our calls for the full implementation of the August 2010 agreement by all parties to ensure these ongoing conflicts between the political prisoners and the Maghaberry administration are avoided.
We will be assembling at 2pm, outside Costello House; the party Head Office on the Falls Road for a whiteline picket in support and solidarity with the prisoners and their families.
