Female Republican Socialist ex prisoners and female Republican Socialist minded members of the local community have established Strabane Irish Republican Socialist Party Women; Gina McElroy an ex-INLA POW and one of the founders of the group said; “Our purpose is to promote women’s issues within the Irish Republican Socialist Movement and espouse Republican Socialist values of equality, fraternity and redress the historic imbalance between men and women and outlaw any form of gender discrimination. We recognise the right of women to choose, we strive to strengthen women’s confidence against exploitation and promote the revolutionary ideology of the Irish Republican Socialist Party at every opportunity, whilst empowering women to step up to the challenges that confront us in revolutionary politics in 2011.”
