Easter 2020 – We Proudly Stand Where We Have Always Stood; With the Workers!

Easter 2020 was meant to be a special occasion for the Irish Republican Socialist Movement as we were originally preparing to dedicate it to the 8 volunteers and comrades whose milestone anniversaries were falling this year.

We were looking forward to another successful Easter Commemoration on the back of the previous years; with 1000’s lining the streets, bands and the usual respectful Easter Republican pageantry that we all look forward to.

Instead, unimaginable events outside of our control meant that it became a special Easter in its own right. Throughout the years of our existence, it is fair to say the Irish Republican Socialist Movement have witnessed our fair share of historic and unprecedented years, but Easter 2020 has certainly broke new ground.

While we currently endure the current health pandemic, the IRSP promised that we would do everything we could to provide a fitting and as normal Easter Commemoration as was physically possible under the current conditions to both remember our revolutionary dead and to protect our members, the public and our healthcare staff.

In recent years, the IRSP have put in considerable resources and time to ensure our online media team are both equipped and capable to launch the party into 2020, and this Easter showed that that effort had paid off.

Our Commemoration and Easter Oration delivered by Dan Murphy was broadcasted from multiple locations live on Facebook and Youtube and was watched by 1000’s, and continues to be watched by our followers across the world. The event was followed by a number of musicians going live to help us raise money for our Republican Socialist Aid initiative, to help us continue to provide vital PPE to frontline healthcare and care home workers.

The IRSP have spent the past week working tirelessly in acquiring, producing and assembling vital PPE and delivering it across Ireland to frontline staff. We paid special recognition to all our workers that continue to provide vital services to our communities.

The day was concluded by the launching of a detailed podcast into the lives & stories of the 8 volunteers that 2020 was dedicated to.
