The Ard Comhairle of the IRSP have taken the difficult decision to cancel all commemorations until further notice. We will also be closing all Republican Socialist Movement offices across the Six Counties. We have taken this decision in the public interest and to protect people against the COVID-19 pandemic.
We stand today on the shoulders of the men and women of the 1916 Easter Rising and the Volunteers of the Republican Socialist Movement. We exist because of their selfless actions and sacrifice to the cause of Irish independence and for national liberation and socialism. We do not take this decision lightly.
During the chaotic height of the national liberation struggle against British colonialism the Republican Socialist Movement never flinched in commemorating our Volunteers or the legacy of the 1916 Easter Rising. Extraordinary circumstances today mean we will ask our members and supporters to abide by the Ard Comhairle decision to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
