Yesterday, the IRSP in Belfast visited a number of Letting Agencies in West Belfast, handing in letters to the managers asking them to lower their rent prices in Working Class Areas to local housing benefit levels.
Dan Ó Murchú the representative for Mid Falls has said, “We have a growing number of our most vulnerable living in growing levels of poverty in our communities, while these landlords continue to exploit a housing shortage to make large amounts of profit on an industrial scale.”
The IRSP have informed the letting agencies, that in the event that they ignore these letters, and in essence ignoring the plea of the most vulnerable within our communities then direct protest action cannot be ruled out.
