The IRSP in Strabane join community led prescription drug initiative.

Yesterday, the IRSP in Strabane formed part of a community led initiative to raise awareness of the ongoing prescription drug crisis in the town.

Hundreds of information leaflets were distributed by IRSP activists and local residents containing information on street names of substances and also how they are falling into the hands of so many young people.

IRSP spokesperson Michael McLaughlin has said, “From engaging with young people in the area, we know that a substantial amount of these drugs are being ordered and delivered via the internet”

This is a worrying trend that our activists have noticed throughout the country, no doubt spurred on by the current lockdown.

Michael went on to say, “Young people in Strabane face a whole variety of socio-economic problems. This drug epidemic cannot be solved by Kitchen Kangaroo courts of the past, it needs dealt head on by community led initiatives like this, we have a chance to reverse this problem before it is too late”.
