Belfast White-line Picket – Repatriate Michael Campbell

995465_10200979898752726_616411011_nThe Irish Republican Socialist Party in Belfast on Saturday held a very successful white-line picket on the Falls Road supporting the growing campaign to repatriate Irish Republican political prisoner Michael Campbell to Ireland from the dungeon-like conditions of the Lithuanian prison he is currently being detained in.  IRSP members, supporters and human rights campaigners lined the Falls Road from the junction with the Donegal Road to Ard Na Va in Beechmount carrying placards and handing out information leaflets calling for County Louth man, Michael Campbell’s repatriation, receiving a very positive reception from passing motorists and pedestrians

At the Belfast white-line picket, IRSP PRO, Alex McGuigan explained that Mr Campbell has been held in a Lithuanian hell hole of a prison since 2008. He stated that, “Michael Campbell is currently being held  in conditions which are described by Professor Rod Morgan, an esteemed academic, who is an advisor to the ‘UK’ Criminal Justice Inspectorate, as both ‘inhuman and degrading!’  Michael Campbell’s case for repatriation is a clear cut humanitarian issue that all Republicans, Socialists and progressives can and should support.  Mr Campbell’s detention is internationally recognised as inhumane and has been compounded by the fact that he has been held incommunicado for extended periods in prison that have left him accumulating 2 years without contact with family members.

The Irish Republican Socialist Party will continue to support the campaign until Michael Campbell is successfully repatriated to a prison in Ireland.
