Belfast Irish Republican Socialist Party held a highly successful white-line picket in support of the Maghaberry Republican prisoners today on the Antrim Road in the north of the city. Approximately 40 IRSP members and supporters carrying placards, Starry Plough flags and party flags braved the winter snow showers to occupy the centre of the busy arterial route for an hour to raise public awareness of the ongoing Republican prisoner protest at the county Antrim prison.
The IRSP Women’s Group carried placards highlighting the continued internment of veteran Republican Marian Price. M/s Price was finally moved to a female prison this week after spending the previous months being held in solitary confinement in an all-male prison. Just as the IRSP white-line picket was coming to an end the RUC/PSNI arrived in a Land Rover and armoured patrol car to harass protesters. Needless to say, the IRSP protests in support of the Maghaberry Republican prisoners will continue until such time as the prison authorities honour the terms of the 2010 August Agreement and cease reneging on it’s implementation.
